• Our running group was chosen in the lottery to run the NIKE Women's Marathon last October. Of our running group my mother, my grandmother, and myself were running as a memorable "3 Generations, 1 Race" activity. The 2008 Volksläufe was my grandmother's first timed race in preparation for the marathon. For her to have earned a "mug of glory", as she say's, was truly a jump start inspiration that helped her to understand that she was 100% capable of finishing a half marathon. - Mia B.

 Share Your Volkslaufe Story

The Volksläufe annually hosts 2,000 to 2,500 participants. Runners and walkers come from as close as Frankenmuth and from as far away as the Marshall Islands, Puerto Rico, and China! Traditionally the 5K race is the largest with 40% of the total participants, followed by the 10K with 30%, the 20K with 20%, and about 10% that elect to complete the 5K walk. Participants include world class athletes, recreational runners, and visitors that come together for an Independence Day ritual to celebrate National pride, Freedom, and fitness.
